We Honored Him During His Lifetime,” Makinde Remembers Olunloyo

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde expressed his sadness over the passing of former Governor Omololu Olunloyo, who died at the age of 90 on Sunday morning, stating that he was grateful to have had the opportunity to honor him while he was still alive.

In a statement released from Ibadan, the state capital, Makinde referred to Olunloyo’s death as the loss of one of Oyo State’s and Nigeria’s most intellectual leaders. He remarked, “I take comfort in the fact that our administration immortalized Pa Olunloyo during his lifetime; he was able to witness this honor firsthand when we dedicated the Ibadan Airport Road and the Leisure Park to him in recognition of his contributions to the state.”

The governor extended his condolences to the Olunloyo family, the people of Ibadanland, and the entire state.

Makinde lamented that it was unfortunate for the esteemed mathematician and administrator to pass away just before his 90th birthday, which was set to be celebrated on April 14, 2025.

“On behalf of the state government and the people of Oyo State, I convey my deepest sympathies to the Olunloyo family, the citizens of Ibadanland, and the state at large following the death of our former governor.

“In Olunloyo, we have lost a distinguished icon and a patriotic leader who played a vital role in the early development of our state. This loss is particularly poignant as I was looking forward to celebrating Baba’s milestone birthday.

“Nevertheless, we must accept the will of God, who gives and takes life as He chooses. May his soul find peace, and may his family find strength during this difficult time,” Makinde concluded.
