This apology came after a tumultuous session earlier in the day during his ministerial screening, where Senator Darlington Nwokocha (Abia Central) accused Keyamo of disrespecting the Ninth National Assembly and criticizing the previous Assembly for corruption.

In a more somber tone than earlier in the day, Keyamo tendered an apology “without reservation” and shed light on the circumstances.

He explained that the issue had already been resolved with the committee members, and subsequent hearings, including budget defense, were conducted in a harmonious atmosphere. He stated, “So, the apology is without reservation. I apologize.”

Earlier, Senator Nwokocha had moved a motion to suspend Keyamo’s ministerial screening. Nwokocha cited an incident during the Buhari administration when Keyamo was summoned to explain a Special Public Works program but did not attend.

In response to the allegations, Keyamo clarified that all payments to beneficiaries of the public works program were directly made from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to the beneficiaries’ accounts. He noted that the register containing names, account numbers, and Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs) of the beneficiaries was held at the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and could be verified.

Senator Godiya Akwashiki (Nasarawa North), who chaired the committee on Labor in the Ninth Senate, appealed to the Senate to accept Keyamo’s apology and allow him to exit after apologizing.

Senator Ali Ndume (Borno South) then proposed a motion to accept Keyamo’s apology, which the Senate agreed to, and the ministerial nominee left the stage.

Keyamo’s screening marked the final interview for all 48 cabinet members nominated by President Bola Tinubu.
