He highlighted that the development of rural road infrastructure would play a pivotal role in addressing insecurity issues in the FCT, curbing rural-urban migration, and enhancing food security in the nation’s capital.

Speaking during the commencement of the Naharati-River Ukya-Unguwan Hausawa Road construction in Abaji Area Council, Wike reiterated that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to build 5-kilometer roads in each of the FCT’s six Area Councils under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Wike, who had previously initiated road construction projects in various Area Councils, emphasized the importance of distributing development evenly across the region, rather than concentrating solely on urban areas.

He stated, “One of the ways to fight insecurity is to provide good roads so that security agencies will have access to go and deal with those people who said they are criminals. If you don’t have good roads, can you go to the farms? So, provision of good roads will help to improve our food security.

“When we fight the bandits, our fathers, our mothers will be able to go to the farm. When good road is provided, our farmers will go to the farm and bring what they have produced and that is the directive Mr. President has given to us that development should not only be concentrated in the city.”

Furthermore, Wike assured that ongoing road projects would be completed within the year and pledged to address additional rural road construction requests from FCT traditional rulers in the 2024 statutory budget.
