Yahaya Bello begs Tinubu – Call EFCC To Order
Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi State, has called upon President Bola Tinubu to intervene and caution the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following their attempted arrest of him at his Abuja residence. In a statement released by his Media Office, Bello highlighted the EFCC’s actions as contrary to a court order issued on February 9, 2024, by the Kogi State High Court. The order restrained the EFCC from harassing, arresting, detaining, or prosecuting Bello pending the determination of a substantive fundamental rights enforcement action.
Despite this injunction, EFCC operatives besieged Bello’s residence in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, in an attempt to effect his arrest. Bello emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law, expressing concern over the agency’s disregard for court orders and its potential impact on Nigeria’s economy and legal system.
Bello underscored his confidence in President Tinubu’s commitment to the rule of law and urged him to intervene to ensure that the EFCC respects the court order and operates within legal boundaries.
The statement concluded with a plea for legal sanity and a call for the EFCC to adhere to the principles of justice and fairness in its operations.
