Court Denies Nnamdi Kanu Bail Again In Alleged Terrorism Case

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has declined to grant bail to Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), in the alleged terrorism charges brought against him by the Federal Government.

The Judge, on Tuesday, rejected Kanu’s bail application, citing a previous denial of bail by the court.

Justice Nyako stated that Kanu’s only recourse was to appeal the earlier decision at the Court of Appeal.

Kanu had applied for bail on February 26, citing concerns about his ability to adequately prepare for his defense without access to his lawyers and his health conditions, including acute hypertension and heart disease.

The federal government opposed the bail request, citing Kanu’s past evasion of bail conditions.

Justice Nyako advised Kanu to pursue his grievances at the Court of Appeal rather than filing repeated bail requests.

Meanwhile, the federal government, represented by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), is pushing for the commencement of the trial on the terrorism charges.

As of the time of this report, Kanu’s legal team, led by Alloy Ejiamakor, is deliberating on the next steps.
