Blame games between the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and Distribution Companies (DisCos) have ensued, each citing reasons why they cannot fulfill their contractual obligations. According to reports from the Independent System Operator (SO), a technical arm of the TCN, only 770MW was distributed to 10 DisCos at 10:53 am on Monday, with some regions receiving no power supply at all, such as the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) which reported 0MW allocation.

Confirming the grid collapse, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company released a statement via its X handle on Monday morning.

This blackout comes on the heels of a similar incident on Sunday, leaving households and businesses without electricity for several hours. It marks the second collapse of the grid in less than a month, further compounding the challenges faced by the industry. The timing is particularly critical, occurring shortly after the controversial tariff increase for Band A power consumers by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
