The incident, which occurred last Friday, claimed the lives of the students, including the SU Government official, who was identified as a 400-Level student in the Faculty of Agriculture. Reports indicated that the clash erupted near the poultry road extension in Ekpoma, escalating tensions within the university community.
The violence unfolded shortly after another incident involving a student named Eddy, who was reportedly assaulted by individuals accusing him of using fake bank alerts for purchases. However, the misunderstanding spiraled into a deadly confrontation as rival cult factions interpreted the incident as an attack, leading to fatal repercussions.
The misinterpretation of events exacerbated the situation, culminating in the tragic loss of lives within the university campus. The Edo State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are underway and several suspects have been apprehended.
The untimely demise of these students underscores the urgent need for concerted efforts to address cult-related violence and promote a safer environment for learning in educational institutions across the state.
