The incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 8 p.m. as the victim awaited entry into his compound. According to a local source, the assailants, who appeared to have been trailing him, arrived in a vehicle, shot him, and sped away.

The source described the chilling scene:
“It felt like a scene from a movie. He had just returned from work and was waiting for his gate to be opened. Suddenly, two armed men drove up, shot him, and fled. Despite efforts to rush him to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss.”

The shocking murder has plunged the Idoma community into mourning, with many struggling to comprehend the motive behind the attack on a well-respected legal practitioner and activist.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer Catherine Anene extended her condolences to the bereaved family and assured the public that investigations are underway.
“We are committed to ensuring justice is served,” she added.

The late Mr. Ofikwu was a prominent figure in Benue State, known for his activism and dedication to legal practice, making his untimely demise a great loss to the community.
