In an interview on ireporteronline, Utomi discussed President Bola Tinubu’s upcoming National Youth Conference in 2025, suggesting that it may not achieve its intended goals unless the government addresses the fundamental issue of trust. He emphasized that the government’s failure to keep its promises has exacerbated the disconnect with young Nigerians.

The founder of the Center for Value in Leadership urged the government to prioritize rebuilding trust with the youth by acknowledging past mistakes and offering sincere apologies for the decades of unfulfilled promises and mistreatment.

He further explained, “Trust is built by doing the right thing. Every time the government fails to follow through on its commitments, it erodes trust. To restore this, the government must openly admit its wrongdoings and demonstrate a genuine commitment to the future of young Nigerians, who represent 70% of the population.”

Utomi’s remarks highlight the urgency for a shift in how the Nigerian government engages with its youth, stressing that without trust, any future initiatives, including the youth conference, will be ineffective.
