The move follows Abbas’ dismissal in December 2024, alongside five other commissioners, during a cabinet reshuffle by Governor Abba Yusuf.

According to a statement released on Saturday by Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser to Senate Deputy President Barau Jibrin on Media and Publicity, Abbas’ defection was announced during a visit to Jibrin’s residence in Kano on Friday night.

The event was attended by prominent APC figures, including Kano State APC Chairman Prince Abdullahi Abbas. During the visit, Abbas pledged his commitment to strengthening the party’s presence across Kano State and beyond.

Senator Barau Jibrin welcomed Abbas, describing him as a grassroots mobilizer and reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to good governance, inclusivity, and service to the people. He assured that the APC remains open to all individuals dedicated to building a better Nigeria.

The defection underscores the shifting political dynamics in Kano State as preparations for future elections intensify.
