Ogun Officials Demand Death For Fatinoye Family Killers: ‘Justice Must Prevail

The Ogun State Government has reiterated its firm commitment to ensuring that justice is fully served in the brutal murders of Kehinde Fatinoye, his wife Bukola, and their son Oreoluwa, whose killers were recently sentenced to death by hanging.

In an exclusive interview with PUNCH Online on Tuesday, Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Media and Strategy, assured that the administration will take all necessary actions to see that justice is carried out.

Akinmade emphasized that those convicted must face the full extent of the law for their heinous crimes.

“The government’s stance is clear: justice must be served. The Ministry of Justice recently visited the prison to ensure proper conditions where the condemned are held. We will not hesitate to make sure they face the consequences,” he stated.

Akinmade further reassured the public that the government recognizes the concerns regarding the enforcement of capital punishment, stressing that justice will not be delayed.

“We have heard the calls for swift action. The court has delivered its verdict, and the government has spoken. Rest assured, justice will prevail, and those convicted will face the music,” he added.

He also warned that failing to carry out capital punishment could embolden other criminals, potentially making them believe they could escape the consequences of their actions.

“If criminals believe they will not face the full penalty for serious crimes, it creates an environment where others feel they too can get away with it. Public safety should be our top priority at this crucial time,” Akinmade stressed.

When asked about potential alternatives should Governor Abiodun choose not to sign the death warrant, Akinmade reaffirmed that the governor follows the law in all matters.

This statement comes amid increasing public demand for Governor Abiodun to sign the death warrant, with many citizens urging immediate action to deliver swift justice for the killers of the Fatinoye family.

The Fatinoye family’s murder, orchestrated by their driver Lekan Adekanbi, took place in the early hours when Adekanbi and his associates broke into the family’s home. The assailants murdered the couple and set their bodies and home ablaze, then tied up their son Oreoluwa and an adopted child before throwing them into the Ogun River. While Oreoluwa tragically drowned, the adopted child survived.

In a 2023 interview, Adekanbi confessed that the murder was motivated by his employers’ refusal to grant him a salary increase or loan.
