Mother And Four Children Burnt To De@th As Fire Razes House In Rivers Community
A mother and her four children have reportedly died after a fire engulfed their residence in Okochiri community, Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to Ireporter Online, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, September 18, 2026, while the family was reportedly asleep.
The cause of the fire has not yet been officially established. Some residents, however, reportedly claimed that petrol may have been ignited by a spark, although the allegation has not been independently verified.
Community youths were said to have launched a rescue operation after receiving news of the fire and eventually succeeded in putting out the blaze.
Commander of the Civilian Joint Task Force in Okrika, Igwe Godswill, confirmed the incident but said details surrounding the tragedy remained unclear.
He said that when members of the group arrived at the scene, they found that five people — the mother and her four children — had died in the fire.
Godswill added that the police had already visited the scene and taken preliminary details, expressing sadness over the incident.
He said he expected a proper investigation to determine exactly what caused the fire and the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The incident has left residents of the community mourning, with further details expected as authorities continue their investigation.
