NYSC Warns Corps Members Against Financial Recklessness, Disrespect To Host Communities
The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abia State, Mrs. Gladys Adama, has charged the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members to approach their service year with a strong sense of integrity, resilience and commitment to national growth.
Speaking at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area during the closing ceremony of the orientation course, Mrs. Adama cautioned corps members against becoming entangled in communal disputes, engaging in financial recklessness or travelling at night.
She urged them to remain vigilant and uphold high moral standards, warning that any act capable of tarnishing the image of the NYSC, endangering their safety or derailing their mission would not be condoned.
“You are expected to be agents of transformation, making lasting impacts in your places of assignment and within your host communities,” she stated.
The State Coordinator commended the corps members for their discipline, endurance and dedication displayed throughout the three-week orientation, noting that the skills and values instilled in them would serve as a guide throughout their service year.
Emphasizing Nigeria’s unity in diversity, she advised the corps members to respect the cultural norms of their host communities and integrate fully into their new environments.
“This journey demands your utmost vigilance and integrity. Avoid misconduct, irresponsible financial behaviour and night travel which could compromise your safety or bring disrepute to the NYSC,” she cautioned.
Mrs. Adama also highlighted the importance of the post-camp Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, encouraging corps members to build on the knowledge gained during camp to achieve long-term self-reliance and economic empowerment.
She further instructed them to proceed directly to their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) after collecting their posting letters and to notify their local government inspectors before embarking on any travel.
