Adeleke: Paying Workers’ Salaries Is Not A Political Achievement

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers, saying the government has taken concrete steps to restore dignity to labour across the state.

Adeleke said his administration had cleared several inherited financial obligations, including salary backlogs, pensioners’ gratuities and promotion arrears, as part of efforts to improve the welfare of both serving and retired workers.

According to Ireporter Online, the governor made the remarks in a statement shared on his X account on Monday, where he stressed that his government’s commitment to workers’ welfare was demonstrated through actions rather than promises.

Adeleke maintained that the payment of workers’ salaries should not be presented as a political achievement, arguing that it was simply the government’s responsibility and the legitimate reward for the services rendered by employees.

He said his administration had also placed emphasis on regular training and capacity development to improve the effectiveness of the state’s workforce.

The governor contrasted his administration’s approach with what he described as the unfulfilled promises of previous governments, insisting that his government had delivered measures that workers could directly experience.

Adeleke further described workers’ welfare as a fundamental component of his administration’s governance agenda rather than an issue to be addressed as an afterthought.

He reiterated that his government had promised to restore dignity to labour in Osun State and maintained that it had taken steps to fulfil that commitment.
