Adebayo: New Members Must Undergo Disinfection To Join SDP

Adewole Adebayo, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has stated that the party is open to welcoming new members but will require them to undergo a process of “disinfection” to ensure they do not bring negative influences from their past affiliations.

Adebayo made this remark during an interview on Channels TV on Sunday, emphasizing that the SDP’s approach is to preserve the integrity and values of the party….READ MORE….

He explained that while the SDP is inclusive of individuals from all political backgrounds, newcomers must allow the party to “sanitize” them to avoid contamination from their previous political environments. Adebayo likened this process to the sanitization protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic, where individuals entering a space were sanitized to prevent the spread of infection. “If you want to join the SDP, you must allow us to apply disinfectant—not because we don’t respect you, but because you are coming from a highly infected zone he stated.

Further clarifying, Adebayo assured that the SDP’s constitution and guidelines are designed to maintain a clean and ethical political process. He highlighted that the party is committed to offering quality leadership free from corruption, bribery, and divisive factors such as ethnicity and religion.

“The party’s constitution is well-sanitized, and its guidelines are structured to ensure we serve the Nigerian people without the influence of negative practices,” he added.

Acknowledging the challenges potential members have faced in their previous parties, Adebayo cited examples of prominent figures such as Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Atiku Abubakar, who have expressed discontent with their former political affiliations.

“We sympathize with everyone coming in, and we recognize the trauma they may have experienced. However, our message is clear: whatever baggage you bring, leave it at the door. This party is about the Nigerian people, not about the politicians,” Adebayo emphasized.

The SDP’s membership process requires new members to thoroughly understand the party’s constitution, which will be upheld at the local ward level.
