Akpabio Denies Responsibility For Ningi’s Suspension, Cautions Against Associating Him With The Issue
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has refuted claims that he is responsible for the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP – Bauchi Central), emphasizing that he has not received any formal request from Ningi seeking reinstatement…..Read also Ningi Challenges Senate Suspension, Threatens Legal Action Against Akpabio
Ningi was suspended following his BBC Hausa interview, where he alleged the padding of the 2024 fiscal year budget to the tune of N3.7 billion. The Senate debated the matter and subsequently suspended Ningi for three months, demanding an apology letter.
In response to accusations leveled against him by Ningi’s counsel, Femi Falana (SAN), Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Media, Eseme Eyiboh, clarified that the Senate, as an institution, imposed Ningi’s suspension and not the Senate President personally.
Eyiboh dismissed Ningi’s ultimatum for reinstatement, highlighting that Akpabio cannot be threatened to reinstate Ningi as he was not directly involved in the suspension decision.
He emphasized that the Senate operates based on established rules and procedures, and Ningi’s suspension was a result of the Senate’s enforcement of its rules, not the actions of any individual.
Eyiboh concluded by asserting that attempts to associate Akpabio or anyone else with Ningi’s suspension are baseless and diversionary.
The statement from Akpabio’s camp underscores the separation of powers within the Senate and seeks to dispel any insinuations of personal vendetta or influence in the disciplinary actions taken against Ningi.
