APC Expels Aregbesola Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, citing anti-party activities as the reason for his removal…READ MORE…

A letter from the APC leadership, titled “Allegations of Anti-Party Activities – Conveyance of State Exco Decision to You”, formally communicated his expulsion. The letter stated that after reviewing the findings of the Disciplinary Committee, the State Executive Committee (SEC) resolved to uphold the recommendation for Aregbesola’s removal from the party.

His expulsion was attributed to actions that allegedly undermined the unity and integrity of the APC, violating Article 21 of the party’s constitution. Aregbesola had been at odds with the party leadership after forming a faction, The Osun Progressives (TOP), later rebranded as the Omoluabi Caucus. This faction was accused of contributing to the APC’s defeat in the 2022 Osun governorship election, where Governor Adegboyega Oyetola lost to Senator Ademola Adeleke of the PDP.

Last Sunday, Aregbesola and his faction officially announced their departure from APC, claiming the party had lost its political relevance in Osun State. In response, the APC leadership insisted that Aregbesola could no longer present himself as a member or act on behalf of the party.

While acknowledging his past contributions, the party urged him to respect and comply with the decision.
