In a statement signed by the press secretary to the Speaker, Matthew Okache, it was revealed that an investigation into the misappropriation of 34 state-owned heavy-duty construction equipment led to the successful recovery.
The statement highlighted the Assembly’s commitment to recovering the equipment and ensuring that those involved in the fraudulent scheme face justice. Following the Assembly’s resolution, several pieces of equipment, including a 1050k Dozzer, a payloader, a Grader, an 850J Dozer, a Backo, and two Excavators, have been retrieved and taken into the state’s custody.
The Speaker noted that while seven of the equipment have been successfully returned to Calabar out of the 23 heavy-duty trucks and equipment, the transportation process has been hindered by a lack of high-powered vessels.
Assuring continued efforts in the recovery exercise, Ayambem reiterated the lawmakers’ determination to retrieve all 30 stolen pieces of equipment. He emphasized the substantial savings the Cross River State Government stands to make, estimated at over N50 billion, through the recovery of these heavy-duty assets.
Furthermore, Ayambem affirmed the unwavering support of the 10th Assembly towards Governor Bassey Otu’s administration in restoring Cross River to a model state.
