Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, disclosed this groundbreaking news during a public event organized by the Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development.
Addressing concerns raised by community members, Gambo assured the public that innocent individuals held at the Army detention facility in Giwa Barracks have been freed. She emphasized that those released were handed over to the state government, with the latest batch of 28 individuals discharged just last week.
Expressing gratitude to the military for their cooperation, Gambo reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring justice and fairness for all suspects. She praised the Allamin Foundation for its efforts in seeking justice for the vulnerable and promoting peace and reconciliation in the state.
Executive Director of the foundation, Hajiya Hamsatu Allamin, commended the Army for providing access to visit detainees and noted the periodic release of innocent individuals. She urged the military to continue this practice to prevent innocent members of society from suffering unjustly.
With the Borno Model, a community-based approach involving all stakeholders, the government aims to address the demands of survivors and victims of insurgency, fostering peace and stability in the region.
As the fight against insurgency continues, the Borno government’s proactive measures signal a step towards reconciliation and justice for all affected by the conflict.
