Speaking at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, on Friday, Alausa confirmed that he had signed a directive instructing the NYSC Director-General to mobilize the affected graduates.

His intervention comes amid rising frustration among Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates who were previously disqualified from the mandatory one-year service due to a newly implemented policy.

The concerned graduates, under the umbrella of the Concerned Higher National Diploma (HND) Graduates/Students, had earlier petitioned the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), which subsequently reached out to the NYSC for a resolution.

During his visit, the minister was greeted by a group of aggrieved students carrying placards and demanding an end to the exclusion policy. Addressing them, he reassured them of his commitment to resolving the issue.

Beyond the mobilization concerns, Alausa urged Nigerian youths to promote a positive image of the country, emphasizing national pride.

“I want you all to be patriotic citizens. There is a lot of negativity being spread about our country, but Nigeria is a great nation. I have lived abroad and now live in Nigeria. We should be proud of our country,” he stated.

On the NYSC matter, Alausa affirmed his awareness of the issue and pledged swift intervention.

“The NBTE Executive Secretary is also in support, and I see no reason why you should be denied the opportunity to serve. I have invited the NYSC DG for a meeting in two weeks, and I assure you this will be resolved,” he said.

Reiterating his commitment, the minister disclosed that he had formally approved a memo to the NYSC leadership, ensuring the inclusion of the affected graduates in upcoming mobilizations.

The affected graduates have also reached out to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and the National Assembly, seeking legislative backing to secure their participation in NYSC Batch A, Stream 1, 2025.
