Breaking: Meranda Heads Lagos Assembly Plenary As Obasa Joins The Hallowed Chamber
Mojisola Lasbat Meranda resigned as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly during Monday’s plenary session. She explained that her decision was driven by the need to safeguard the institution, saying, “I must make this selfless sacrifice to resign in order to protect the institution.”
Meranda took office on January 13, 2025, after the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa due to allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of office.
Her resignation could pave the way for Obasa’s possible reinstatement to the role of Speaker.
In a related matter, Deputy Speaker Mojeed Fatai also submitted his resignation during the same session, thanking his colleagues for their support throughout his short tenure.
As a result of these changes, Meranda has been reinstated as Deputy Speaker, and Obasa has resumed his position as Speaker.
