BREAKING: Meranda Steps Down as Speaker of Lagos Assembly

Mojisola Lasbat Meranda has stepped down as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly during Monday’s plenary session. Meranda’s tenure began on January 13, 2025, following the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa over allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of office.

Her resignation may pave the way for Obasa’s potential return to the position.

In a related development, Deputy Speaker Mojeed Fatai also tendered his resignation during the same plenary session, expressing gratitude to his colleagues for their support during his brief tenure.

Following these developments, Meranda has been reinstated as Deputy Speaker, while Obasa has returned as Speaker
