and the recovery of a staggering 1.2 million litres of stolen crude.
From November 25 to December 1, 2024, the coordinated operations resulted in the destruction of 88 cooking drums and 20 boats used in illegal refining, as well as the arrest of 17 suspected oil thieves. The troops uncovered illegal connection points, including six pipelines linked to criminal activities, and dismantled five motorcycles used in sabotage operations.
In Bayelsa State, the troops targeted a notorious abandoned Oando wellhead in Okordia Forest, deactivating 15 illegal refining sites and recovering more than 755,000 litres of stolen crude and 53,000 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). Another 12 illegal sites were shut down in the Biseni Forest, where more stolen crude and AGO were seized.
In Rivers State, a critical discovery was made in Kula I, where oil thieves were using a 36-inch government pipeline for illegal connections. Troops seized over 100,000 litres of stolen products from a ground reservoir and uncovered a truck containing 35,000 litres of crude concealed in a fabricated tank.
Additional operations in Bakana and Buguma also led to the confiscation of 27,000 litres of stolen crude, multiple boats, and containers of refined products. This major operation highlights the increasing commitment to tackling oil theft in the region, as security forces continue to target illegal refining and bunkering activities.
