This appeal follows recent attempts by the EFCC to detain Bello, which were reportedly obstructed by the current Kogi Governor, Ahmed Ododo, who utilized his immunity to prevent Bello’s arrest. Fagbemi criticized such interventions, labeling them as counterproductive to the principles of justice and transparency.

In a statement he personally signed, Fagbemi emphasized that the EFCC has the legal authority to invite any Nigerian for questioning and affirmed his commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of all citizens. He urged individuals invited by the EFCC to honorably comply with the invitation instead of obstructing the agency’s efforts.

Fagbemi underscored the importance of allowing institutions of the state to function effectively and efficiently, stating that Nigeria has a vibrant judicial system capable of protecting those who follow the rule of law. He cautioned against actions that could tarnish the country’s image on the global stage and urged individuals to prioritize decency and civility in responding to law enforcement invitations.
