Bribery And Backdoor Deals  Panel Pushes New Charges As Bobrisky’s Jail Time Sparks Outrage

Earlier this year, Bobrisky received a six-month prison sentence on April 12 for currency abuse and was released on August 5. Following a video posted by activist VeryDarkMan, which contained Bobrisky’s claims of bribing officials to avoid standard prison time, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, launched an investigation.

The inquiry, led by Magdalena Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, found no evidence supporting Bobrisky’s claims of being housed outside the Kirikiri Custodial Centre. However, the panel recommended he face charges for defamation and criminal activities, with the Department of State Services investigating possible bribery involving EFCC and prison officials.

Additionally, the panel indicted four correctional officers, including a former Controller of Corrections, Ben Rabbi-Freeman, and recommended disciplinary actions based on procedural violations during Bobrisky’s transfer between facilities. It was suggested that these violations were backdated to align with official records.

The panel called for an audit of the Nigerian Correctional Service’s inmate records and recommended reforms to prevent commercial exploitation of inmate welfare services.
