Complete Disaster’ – Wike Blasts Bode George Over Failed PDP Chairmanship Bid

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, of remaining upset over his failure to become the party’s national chairman.

According to IREPORTER Online, Wike said he had no regrets about opposing George’s ambition, insisting that the national chairmanship position was zoned to the South-South at the time.

The minister made the remarks in a statement issued on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.

Wike alleged that George had treated the national chairmanship position as though it was automatically his, but maintained that the zoning arrangement prevented him from securing the position.

The former Rivers State governor also recalled an attempt to reconcile with George after the PDP’s national convention. According to Wike, he visited George at his Maitama residence in Abuja while he was still governor of Rivers State.

He claimed that George’s wife initially attempted to ask him to leave the residence before former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, intervened.

Wike said efforts to resolve their differences did not prevent George from continuing to criticise him publicly.

The FCT minister also questioned George’s political influence in Lagos, arguing that the effectiveness of a party leader should be measured by electoral results rather than titles or historical contributions to the party.

Wike described George as a “complete disaster” in terms of electoral performance and alleged that the former PDP leader had failed to deliver significant victories for the party despite occupying senior positions.

To support his argument, Wike cited results from polling units associated with George during previous elections.

He claimed that in the 2019 presidential election, the APC secured 84 votes while the PDP recorded 40 votes at Unit 001, Ward E2, Evans Street, Lagos Island.

Wike further alleged that George later transferred his voter registration to Eti-Osa ahead of the 2023 election, where the PDP reportedly secured only four votes at his polling unit.

The minister said the figures demonstrated what he described as George’s limited electoral influence and questioned why the former party leader continued to present himself as a major political force.

Wike also alleged that George was unhappy over the emergence of another PDP chieftain, Deji Doherty, whom he claimed George did not want to control the party’s structure in Lagos.

He suggested that George’s frequent appearances in the media were partly due to a lack of other political engagements.

The renewed exchange comes amid the continuing crisis within the PDP, with George recently criticising Wike over his role in the party’s internal dispute.

George has also threatened legal action against the FCT minister over allegations concerning his Abuja residence.

The latest comments from Wike are expected to further intensify the public disagreement between the two PDP chieftains as the party continues to grapple with internal divisions.
