Convicted Murderer’s TikTok Vanishes As NCoS Keeps Mum

The TikTok account allegedly linked to death-row inmate, Elijah Oyebode, has been deleted following reports that he operated social media accounts and hosted live sessions from the Ibara Custodial Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

According to Ireporter Online, the account, identified as @ayola.oluwafu, now displays a message indicating it can no longer be found on the platform.

The development comes after an investigative report alleged that Oyebode had access to mobile phones and internet services while in custody, enabling him to maintain an online presence despite serving a death sentence.

It remains unclear whether the account was removed by TikTok, deleted by the inmate himself, or taken down following action by correctional authorities. The account reportedly remained active after the investigation was first published on August 1 but was no longer accessible during a follow-up check conducted on August 4.

Before the report was released, TikTok’s Head of Communications for Sub-Saharan Africa, Keagile Makgoba, was contacted regarding the account and reportedly requested additional time to investigate the matter. However, no official clarification had been provided before publication. The platform was later contacted again after the account disappeared to determine whether it had been removed by TikTok.

The investigation further alleged that Oyebode operated at least two TikTok accounts from within the correctional facility and received monetary gifts from viewers during live broadcasts. Many of those who interacted with him were reportedly unaware that he had been convicted of murder and sentenced to death.

Oyebode was convicted for the 2016 murder of Rofiat Adebisi, a final-year student of Osun State University.

During one of his reported TikTok Live sessions in April 2026, he allegedly claimed that inmates had unrestricted access to mobile phones and social media, suggesting that some prisoners owned multiple devices while concealing their locations during video calls.

The investigation also linked a second TikTok account to Oyebode through forensic findings and witness accounts. The account allegedly impersonated popular TikTok Live host and activist, Omolola Awoyele, by using her name and photograph.

Awoyele disclosed that after confronting Oyebode over the impersonation, he apologised and removed her image from the account.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Correctional Service has not issued an official statement addressing the allegations or explaining how a death-row inmate allegedly gained access to mobile phones and social media while in custody.

The disappearance of the TikTok account has also sparked fresh questions over possible disciplinary measures and security procedures at the Ibara Custodial Centre.
