Ortom’s advice comes in the wake of the EFCC’s declaration of Bello as wanted for alleged money laundering, with accusations of misappropriating over N80 billion during his tenure as governor.

Speaking at a thanksgiving service held by his former appointees to commemorate his 63rd birthday at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Regional Headquarters in Makurdi, Ortom emphasized the importance of accountability. He urged Bello not to shy away from EFCC inquiries or resist arrest, but instead to present himself and provide explanations.

Addressing Bello directly, Ortom stated, “If you are called to come and account for your stewardship by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, go there. You do not need to hide from EFCC; you do not need to resist arrest or anything. Go there and explain.”

Expressing concern over Bello’s whereabouts and attempts to reach out to him unsuccessfully, Ortom emphasized the gravity of the situation and urged Bello to heed his advice. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of respecting the legal process and cooperating with authorities.
