Notorious Motorcycle Thief Apprehended In Ekiti

Shadrach, along with his accomplice, had been targeting innocent motorcyclists in Oye-Ekiti, snatching motorcycles for illicit gain. However, their criminal activities came to an end on April 25, 2024, when they attempted to snatch a motorcycle from a commercial rider near Trinity Hostel.

According to DSP Abutu Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Shadrach and his partner posed as passengers and boarded the motorcycle. Upon reaching a secluded spot, they assaulted the motorcyclist with dry, ground pepper and a hammer, attempting to steal the motorcycle.

Fortunately, with the help of passersby, the motorcyclist managed to subdue Shadrach, leading to his arrest, while his accomplice escaped. Further investigation revealed that Shadrach was involved in previous motorcycle thefts reported on April 2 and 22 by other commercial motorcycle riders in Oye Ekiti.

Shadrach confessed to his involvement in the crimes, revealing that he and his accomplice, who served as the leader of their criminal enterprise, had relocated from Benin City, Edo State, to Ekiti in November 2023 to carry out their unlawful activities.

The successful apprehension of Shadrach underscores the importance of community vigilance and collaboration with law enforcement agencies in combating crime. It serves as a warning to would-be criminals that their unlawful activities will not go unpunished, and that the residents of Ekiti State are committed to maintaining peace and security in their communities.
