Empowering Futures: NAPPS To Award Scholarships To Released Protest Minors

According to ireporteronline.com, these minors were among a group of 76 defendants facing treasonable felony charges in a Federal High Court in Abuja. They were detained following protests against economic hardships that turned violent across various regions from August 1 to 10, 2024.

During a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, NAPPS Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Alhaji Abdulmumuni Kundak, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the minors’ release. He emphasized the critical role of education in promoting national unity and preparing the youth for a brighter future.

“On behalf of NAPPS members nationwide, we would like to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the release of the 32 minors detained during the #EndBadGovernance protests. In light of this, NAPPS is ready to provide scholarships for the affected minors up to the secondary school level,” he stated.

Kundak also commended the President for the newly introduced entrepreneurship curriculum for pupils in basic schools, noting the importance of skill acquisition for Nigeria’s development.

He further explained that the association would work with relevant agencies to verify the minors’ details to determine their educational placements. “We are committed to ensuring that, depending on their locations, if they are from Lagos, they will have access to study in Lagos. Similarly, minors from Bauchi will also have opportunities to study free of charge. We will coordinate with the appropriate authorities to obtain the list of those eligible and confirm their educational status,” he said.

In his remarks, Chief Abayomi Otubela, the National President of NAPPS, praised the efforts of the newly approved Board of Trustees by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and urged private school owners operating below standards to improve.

“We anticipate a scenario where excellence becomes our standard, leaving no room for mediocrity. We expect a culture that respects the rule of law within our association, guided by a Board of Trustees that establishes and upholds its agenda,” he asserted.
