Nasarawa State Pushes For Approval of N156.6bn Supplementary Budget To Boost Services

“The bill, titled ‘A Bill for a Law to Withdraw from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the State the Sum of One Hundred and Fifty-Six Billion, Six Hundred and Eighty-Seven Million, Four Hundred and Seventy-Nine Thousand, Three Hundred and Eighty Naira, Ninety-Four Kobo (N156,687,479,388.94) only (Supplementary/Amended Appropriation Bill, 2024) for the Services of Nasarawa State Government,’ has been presented for the first reading,” Jatau stated.

Earlier, the Majority Leader of the House, Suleiman Azara, introduced a motion for the bill to proceed to its first reading, which was seconded by Deputy Minority Leader Onarigu Kana.

In his letter accompanying the bill, Governor Sule noted that the original 2024 Appropriation was crafted with the aim of ensuring realistic and feasible outcomes amid economic uncertainties. He expressed satisfaction with the increased revenue inflow from the Federation Accounts and capital receipts, primarily from the NG-CARES Program for Results, during the first three quarters of the fiscal year.

To enhance the accounting records and incorporate new infrastructural development plans, the governor emphasized the necessity of a Supplementary Budget for the 2024 fiscal year to reflect updated policies, projects, and programs.

He stated, “The government initially prepared the 2024 Budget of Renewed Commitment with the intention of completing all ongoing and new projects that directly impact the lives of the people within the fiscal year.”

Sule further explained that due to the urgent nature of these projects and programs, budgetary adjustments are required to address forthcoming demands and challenges stemming from changes in the country’s macroeconomic conditions.

He concluded by presenting the Appropriation Bill, which totals One Hundred and Fifty-Six Billion, Six Hundred and Eighty-Seven Million, Four Hundred and Seventy-Nine Thousand, Three Hundred and Eighty-Eight Naira, Ninety-Four Kobo (N156,687,479,388.94), as a supplement to the previously approved budget of N199.8 billion. This brings the overall budget for the Nasarawa State Government to Three Hundred and Fifty-Six Billion, Five Hundred and Sixty-Six Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty Thousand, Ninety-Eight Naira, Thirty-Six Kobo (N356,566,850,098.36) for services from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024.

It is noteworthy that Governor Sule had previously presented the 2024 Appropriation Bill of N199.8 billion to the House for approval in December 2023.
