The union noted that the N20,000 wage increase began in October 2024. They highlighted that this was the first increase for pensioners in 16 years, marking a significant step forward in addressing their financial needs.

The letter acknowledged the governor’s numerous positive initiatives, including the timely payment of monthly pensions, the release of accrued gratuities, and financial assistance to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

“We cannot overlook the many generous gestures of your remarkable administration, which reflect your sincerity, love, and care for the elderly. Thank you very much, sir,” the letter stated.

However, the union urged the governor to consider a consequential review of pensions for long-serving retirees in accordance with the Federal Government Circular on the Consequential Adjustment of Pensions for those who retired before the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2019 came into effect.
