False Claims Exposed: Adebutu Was Never Detained, Says Aide

Orekoya clarified the situation on Tuesday in response to claims made by Lekan Adeniran, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun, who alleged that Adebutu had been re-arrested following his earlier release by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Reports indicated that Adebutu’s supposed arrest was linked to incidents of violence during the local government elections in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area, held on Saturday.

The state government accused Adebutu of deploying unauthorized police officers from Lagos and orchestrating disruptions involving alleged PDP thugs. These disruptions reportedly included attacks on the newly elected Vice Chairman of Ikenne Local Government, Mohammed Efuwape, and a voter named Biola.

In his rebuttal, Orekoya dismissed these accusations as baseless. He stated that Adebutu had been invited by the State Commissioner of Police for clarification regarding the events.

“It is shameful that the Ogun State government is preoccupied with targeting one man instead of focusing on governance and state development,” Orekoya said.

He emphasized that Adebutu was neither arrested nor detained, explaining, “My principal merely honored an invitation by the Commissioner of Police to provide his account of the events surrounding the election. He left the police headquarters immediately after the discussion.”

Orekoya accused the government of spreading misinformation to mislead the public, adding, “This administration thrives on lies, attempting to suppress opposition voices while deceiving Ogun State residents.”
