Starting at 4U Supermarket in Wuse 2, Abuja, the exercise responded directly to consumer concerns about rising prices of goods. The commission emphasized the issue of price disparities and highlighted the importance of consumers having access to accurate pricing information.

This initiative aligns with the commission’s commitment to protecting consumers amid the escalating costs of goods and services, despite the recent strengthening of the Naira against the dollar.

Dr. Adamu Abdullahi, the acting Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive of FCCPC, stressed that the current situation is unacceptable and assured consumers of protection against exploitation.

Acknowledging the concerns raised by Nigerians regarding the increasing prices of products and services, Dr. Abdullahi stated, “The FCCPC understands the significant financial strain these rising prices place on Nigerian households. As a result, the Commission is taking proactive steps to address this issue.”

He further outlined that FCCPC operatives would intensify monitoring of both formal and informal markets to prevent businesses from unfairly inflating prices. Collaborating with trade associations, farmer groups, and other stakeholders, the commission aims to identify and eliminate barriers to entry in various sectors, combat price-fixing, and dismantle cartels. These efforts are expected to foster increased competition, ultimately resulting in lower prices for consumers.
