FG Launches Groundbreaking Transparency Platform For Tertiary Institutions

According to Ireporter Online, the Federal Government has inaugurated a new digital platform designed to promote transparency, accountability, and effective governance across Nigeria’s tertiary education system. The initiative, known as the Federal Government Tertiary Institution Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP), was officially launched by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, the Minister explained that the platform represents a major milestone in the nation’s education reform agenda, providing a unified database with real-time information on student enrollment, government funding, research grants, and performance indicators across all tertiary institutions. Dr. Alausa noted that this system will, for the first time, give the government and the public unrestricted visibility into how resources are allocated and utilized.

He emphasized that all tertiary institutions must comply with the mandatory annual data submission requirement, scheduled for the first quarter of each year, to ensure transparency and accuracy in national education statistics. Furthermore, institutions will now be required to obtain a clearance certificate from the Director of ICT before accessing any Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) ICT intervention.

Dr. Alausa stated that the FTIGTP aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to good governance and transparency. He added that the platform is not merely a digital tool but a strategic reform instrument aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, and evidence-based policymaking.

According to him, the data-driven system will enhance performance-based funding decisions, discourage mismanagement, and restore public trust in the education sector. “This innovation will strengthen financial transparency, promote judicious use of resources, and ensure that support and interventions are tied to measurable accountability metrics,” he said.

He also urged Vice Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts to actively support and comply with the initiative, stressing that their participation is vital to achieving the government’s vision of a globally competitive education system. Dr. Alausa described the launch as a “bold step towards rebuilding public confidence and positioning Nigeria’s tertiary institutions as models of transparency and excellence.”

He concluded by affirming that the success of the FTIGTP would mark a new era in Nigeria’s education history — one defined by integrity, innovation, and efficient resource management.
