In this interview, Bimbo recalls the poignant advice her father gave her when he accompanied her to her first movie audition. She also reveals her desire to portray a character with a terminal illness, inspired by the personal loss of her mother to cancer.

On Being a YouTube Filmmaker
“I’m grateful to God for giving me the patience to produce content on YouTube without focusing on financial returns,” Bimbo shares. “I was willing to risk money and keep making films until I gained recognition. I started with ‘Iya Baraka,’ which garnered over 100,000 views, and after its release, it reached one million views. Though my second film, ‘Shining Star,’ didn’t perform well, I didn’t give up. We kept pushing, and films like ‘Last Straw’ and ‘Fame of Furry’ have since amassed millions of views.”

Reflecting on Her Nollywood Journey
Since her acting debut, Bimbo says her path has been full of blessings. “Meeting Udokah-Isong was one of the greatest things to happen to me,” she says, explaining that she was spared from the typical challenges of sexual harassment and pay-to-play schemes in Nollywood. “She took me under her wing and allowed me to showcase my potential. From 2014 to 2024, I can say God has been faithful.”

What Prepared Me for Acting
Bimbo admits there was no specific preparation, but she had always aspired to be an actor. “I told my dad in senior secondary school that I didn’t want to attend Covenant University because they didn’t have a Theatre Arts department. He supported me and suggested I study Business Administration. Acting has always been in my blood, and today, here I am.”

Looking Ahead
Despite her success, Bimbo believes she is only at the beginning of her career. “There’s still so much more for me to accomplish. I haven’t directed a film or made my cinema debut. I don’t have a personal project on streaming platforms, and there’s still plenty of work to do.”

Roles She Wants to Play
Bimbo shares her desire to portray characters with deeper emotional stories, such as someone battling a terminal illness. “I lost my mom to cancer, and I’d love to play a character with a terminal disease to tell my story,” she explains. “I also want to portray the role of a mother, maybe one whose child is being bullied or a single mother, as there are many women out there facing stigmatization.”

Her Driving Force
Bimbo credits her father as her biggest motivator. “He has done so much for me, and I could never put his name to shame. On the day of my first audition, he waited for six hours with me. He even went out to buy bread and sardines for me to eat. He’s already made a name for himself as a politician, and he told me, ‘If you can’t raise my name, don’t stain it.’ Since then, I’ve been careful to protect his name and reputation.”

The Impact of Fame
Fame has brought both blessings and challenges for Bimbo. “It’s been a blessing, but also a bittersweet experience,” she says. “I make sure not to let fame get to my head and always stay grounded in my actions.”
