According to Samuel Abbey, the elder brother of the deceased, the assailants ambushed Alaba Abbey shortly after he returned home, gunning him down as he relaxed in front of his house around 9 pm. The motive behind the assassination remains unclear, as Alaba Abbey was not known for any involvement in violent activities, nor did he have any history of disputes.
The Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers Independent Council (LACO-FSIC)-SF, has strongly condemned the murder of Alaba Abbey, describing him as a dedicated and non-violent member actively involved in campaigning for Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s reelection. The organization has called on security agencies to expedite investigations and bring the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice.
Alaba Abbey held significant roles within the political landscape of Ondo state, serving as the Returning Officer for the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election. Additionally, he served as the ward coordinator for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot-Soldiers (LACO-SF) in Ward 10.
The assassination of Alaba Abbey underscores the precarious security situation in the region and raises concerns about the safety of political campaigners and activists. As investigations unfold, the community awaits justice for Alaba Abbey and calls for enhanced security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
