The Carter Center confirmed the sad news, announcing that Carter passed away peacefully at his home in Plains, Georgia. His passing comes just months after the loss of his beloved wife, Rosalynn, who died in November 2023. The couple had spent their later years in the house they built together in 1961.

In February 2023, Carter chose hospice care after deciding to forgo further medical treatments, opting instead to embrace his final years with loved ones around him. His grandson, Jason Carter, shared a poignant message on social media at the time, noting, “They are at peace, and their home remains full of love.”
