During a recent podcast, Obi noted the extensive hours spent in church services from Monday to Friday, which stirred mixed reactions among Nigerians, with some viewing it as an attack on religious practices. However, a statement from Obi’s media aide, Ibrahim Umar, clarified that Obi’s words were misrepresented, and he did not call for the dismantling of churches.
The statement explained that Obi was emphasizing the importance of balancing faith with action, quoting the Biblical saying, “Faith without works is unhelpful.” Obi’s aim was to encourage Nigerians to integrate their worship with productive activities, much like Jesus chose his disciples from their workplaces, underscoring the message that work is also a form of worship.
