While Okoye acknowledged the incident, he assured the public that an official statement would be released upon the completion of the investigation. Reports indicate that Anyanwu was slain in his hometown of Orodo, located in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state, by suspected assassins. His decomposing body was discovered on April 5 in a nearby bush.
A family source, opting for anonymity, disclosed that the deceased would be laid to rest on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. However, no further comments were provided on the matter. Additionally, it was revealed that the victim’s family had submitted a sworn affidavit to the police, seeking the recovery of his remains for immediate burial.
This unfortunate incident follows a similar pattern of violence against legal practitioners in the state. Previously, Magistrate Nnaemeka Ugboma, the former Chairman of Obudiagwa Customary Court in Oguta Local Government Area, fell victim to assailants who fatally shot him during a court session on February 2, 2023. The gunmen, reportedly riding motorcycles, targeted and killed the 55-year-old magistrate before fleeing the scene.
