Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
Reports from the weekend revealed that GAC members convened a significant private meeting at an undisclosed location to unify their approach to the issue.
As the apex decision-making body of the APC in Lagos, the GAC’s resolutions hold authority over party members, with Pa Tajudeen Olusi at the helm and President Bola Tinubu serving as its Lifetime Patron.
The impeachment of Obasa on January 13, 2025, over allegations of misconduct and financial mismanagement, has created significant rifts within the Lagos APC, with some leaders opposing his removal.
Naija News has learned that the meeting aimed to foster unity among influential APC members and avert further division within the party.
A prominent APC figure, in an interview with Vanguard over the weekend, stated, “Following the directive from Mr. President, Tinubu, the GAC members have intervened to prevent the party from descending into chaos.
“I can assure you that there are no conflicts or divisions among the GAC members.
“As I speak, multiple discreet discussions are taking place among members to amicably resolve the situation. The GAC is aligned in their commitment to addressing the conflict in a familial manner.
“There are established conflict resolution protocols within the party for situations like this. It’s crucial to preserve the party’s integrity amid the divisive rhetoric circulating among its ranks.”
Regarding the possibility of suspending Obasa and initiating an investigation, the source said, “I don’t foresee that happening. The APC has mechanisms in place to address these matters appropriately. That’s all I can confirm.”
On the topic of Obasa potentially defecting to the opposition, he added, “Again, I don’t anticipate that occurring, considering Obasa’s history as a committed progressive who values democratic principles and has always aligned with Asiwaju since the days of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
“Remember, upon his return from abroad, he publicly urged his supporters to remain in APC, stating he has no intention of leaving. I believe he means that.”
