On February 1, tragedy struck 52-year-old Bujji Aamma from Berhampur, India, as she suffered severe burns in a house fire. Rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for urgent medical attention, Aamma’s condition remained critical, with burns covering nearly half of her body.

Despite her return home in a frail state, the family’s financial constraints prevented further treatment. Days passed, and Aamma showed no signs of waking up, leading her husband, Sibaram Palo, to believe she had succumbed to her injuries.

Preparations for her cremation were underway when a remarkable twist unfolded. Just as they were about to light the funeral pyre, Aamma startled everyone by opening her eyes, defying all expectations of her demise.

K. Chiranjibi, who accompanied Aamma to the cremation ground, described the surreal moment: “Initially, we were scared as we had never seen such an incident, though we had heard some stories.”

The hearse driver, Khetrabashi Sahu, who had initially transported Aamma’s presumed ‘body’ to the cremation ground, was promptly called back to collect her once more.

With disbelief and relief washing over them, Aamma was transported back home in the same hearse, marking an extraordinary chapter in her journey from death’s door to an unexpected revival.
