INEC Trains Officials Ahead Of Continuous Voter Registration In Anambra

The Electoral Institute (TEI), in partnership with the Voter Registry (VR) and Information/Communication Technology (ICT) departments of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has commenced a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme in preparation for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise slated to begin on Tuesday, July 8, in Anambra State.

The initiative, which kicked off on Thursday, is designed to equip 26 trainers — including supervisors — with the critical skills required to effectively conduct the voter registration. Each trained official is expected to further cascade the knowledge to their respective teams across various local government areas in the state.

Meanwhile, the TEI held a farewell ceremony for its former Director-General, Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris, alongside four retired directors who were honoured for their exceptional service. Those celebrated included Mr. John Irem, Mr. Sylvanus Yepe, Mr. Tunde Ojedokun, and Mr. Ifeanyi Agoha.

Speaking at the event, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, lauded Dr. Idris for his visionary leadership, which transformed the Institute into a globally acclaimed centre for electoral capacity development. Represented by the Chairman of the Board of the Electoral Institute (BEI), Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, Prof. Yakubu urged Dr. Idris to continue championing the ideals of the Institute in his new capacity.

Also present were several National Commissioners, Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) from Nasarawa, Sokoto, and the FCT, the INEC Secretary, Mrs. Rosemary Anthony Oriaran, as well as members of the BEI board and close associates of Dr. Idris.
