UniJos ASUU Embarks On Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salaries
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos chapter, has declared an indefinite strike over the non-payment of its members’ June salaries.
The industrial action is set to commence from 12:00 a.m. on Friday, July 4, following a resolution reached during the union’s congress held on June 4.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the branch chairman, Prof. Jurbe Molwus, and made available to journalists on Thursday in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
According to the statement, members have been directed to abstain from all lectures and statutory meetings should their June salaries remain unpaid by 11:59 p.m. on July 3.
“This is in line with the standing resolution of our National Executive Council that mandates branches to take necessary action if salaries are not paid by the third day of a new month,” the statement read.
Molwus added that the branch congress had already affirmed this position in its last meeting.
He further urged all members to strictly comply with the directive until further notice, adding that a strike monitoring team would be deployed to ensure full compliance.
