Insecurity Strikes: Bandits Turn Benue’s Sankera Into Nightmare Realm

Known far and wide for its bountiful yam harvests, Sankera was once a bustling epicenter of trade and sustenance, drawing throngs of eager buyers and culinary enthusiasts to savor its delectable produce.
However, the idyllic days of plenty have been supplanted by a reign of terror, with marauding bandits, armed robbers, and kidnappers casting a pall of fear and despair over the land.
Gone are the days of bustling markets and joyous camaraderie, replaced instead by the specter of violence and bloodshed that now stalks the once-prosperous community.
The Sankera region, comprising Logo, Ukum, and Katsina-Ala local government areas, was renowned as the economic lifeline of Benue, its fertile fields yielding an abundance of yam that fed the nation.
Yet, the flourishing trade that once enriched the community now teeters on the brink of collapse, as the scourge of insecurity grips the land with an iron fist.
Recent weeks and months have seen a surge in abductions, killings, and lawlessness, sending shockwaves through the populace and driving yam traders to seek safer havens for their commerce.
In a chilling series of events, prominent figures such as the Chairman of Ukum LGA, Rev. Gideon Haanongon, fell prey to the machinations of these malevolent forces, held captive by ruthless captors who demanded exorbitant ransoms for their release.
Traders and civilians alike have fallen victim to the ruthless tactics of these criminal elements, their lives and livelihoods held in the balance by the specter of violence that looms large over Sankera.
As the once-thriving yam hub grapples with the specter of insecurity, its residents are left to ponder whether the tide of terror can be stemmed, or if their beloved land will remain ensnared in the clutches of darkness indefinitely.
