This incident unfolded amid an ongoing border dispute between the Isu community and the Ukwa community of Odukpani Local Government Area in Cross Rivers state.

Prompt police action led to the arrest of three suspects, with investigations now underway.

Hon. Nicholas Kalu, the President General of Isu, attributed the attack to a land dispute, particularly over Isu’s land, which is abundant in limestones and other natural resources. The Ukwa people of Cross River allegedly attempted to seize this land.

In response, Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, condemned the assault on the Isu Community. He affirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens and residents.

During his visit to offer condolences to the deceased’s family and assess the situation, Governor Otti, represented by Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, directed the immediate transfer of gunshot victims to a specialist hospital for necessary medical care.
