JUST IN: NCAA Suspends Max Air Domestic Flights Indefinitely (SEE WHY)

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has imposed a suspension on the operations of all Boeing B737 aircraft belonging to domestic carrier Max Air. The suspension, effective immediately, was conveyed to the airline through a letter from the regulator.

Dated July 12, 2023, and titled “Suspension of Parts A3 and D43 of the Operations Specifications Issued to Max Air with Immediate Effect,” the letter was signed by Capt. Ibrahim Bello Dambazau, the NCAA Director of Operations, Training, and Licensing, on behalf of Capt. Musa Nuhu, the NCAA Director General.

As a result of the suspension, all domestic flights operated by Max Air will be put on hold until the suspension is lifted.

The letter cited several incidents involving Max Air’s Boeing B737 aircraft as the reason for the regulatory action. These incidents include the loss of a main landing gear wheel during a serious incident, fuel contamination of the main fuel tanks leading to an auxiliary power unit shutdown, an aborted take-off due to high exhaust gas temperature, and an air return due to duct overheat indication in the cockpit.

The NCAA has assembled a team of inspectors to conduct an audit of Max Air’s operations. The satisfactory outcome of this audit is a prerequisite for the restoration of the operational privileges of the airline’s Boeing B737 aircraft.
