held in Davos, Switzerland.
During the prestigious global economic summit, Shettima proudly represented Nigeria, showcasing the nation’s investment prospects, advocating for African economic integration, and engaging in strategic discussions with world leaders and international organizations.
His time in Davos included participation in forums emphasizing the importance of attracting investment into Africa’s emerging markets. At a key session titled “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets,” organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and WEF, Shettima reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to drawing capital for sustainable development.
Additionally, he confirmed Nigeria’s dedication to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and expressed the country’s intent to harness digital trade as a catalyst for economic advancement, suggesting that Africa could achieve a $29 trillion economy by 2050.
In bilateral discussions with prominent leaders, including Botswana’s President Duma Boko and South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, Shettima focused on enhancing intra-African relations and promoting trade and development partnerships.
He also held conversations with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Børge Brende, the President of the World Economic Forum, on cooperative strategies to tackle challenges faced by Africa, such as energy security, food crises, and environmental issues.
Discussing Nigeria’s reform agenda under President Tinubu, Shettima highlighted ongoing initiatives such as subsidy removal, exchange rate adjustments, and tax reforms, emphasizing that the country is moving toward sustained economic growth.
Among the highlights of his participation was his role as a panelist in the “Financial Times Global Risks 2025” dialogue, where he underscored the crucial need for multilateral collaboration in addressing global crises.
Shettima also championed innovation in education and agriculture to empower Nigeria’s youth and stimulate economic growth.
Accompanied by high-ranking government officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission Aisha Rimi, the Vice President returned to Abuja after the successful conclusion of his engagements in Davos.
Upon his arrival at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, he was welcomed by Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum and other officials, as reported by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha.
