Kwara State: 19-Year-Old Arrested For Allegedly Raping Minor

The NSCDC’s spokesperson in the state, Ayoola Michael, disclosed on Thursday that the Director of the Child Unit at the state Ministry of Women Affairs, Alhaja Mariam Yusuf, reported the incident to their office in Ilorin on Tuesday.

Michael elaborated that the ministry decided to bring the case to the attention of the NSCDC after receiving a distress call from Babareke House in the Ipata Oloje area of Ilorin.

Acting swiftly, the NSCDC responded and apprehended the suspect, following diligent efforts by their officers.

Investigations revealed that the accused frequently visited the victim’s residence, allegedly under the pretense of visiting a friend, thus gaining access to the victim.

According to Michael, on December 1, 2023, the suspect lured the victim to an unfinished building where the assault reportedly occurred. Then, on April 16, 2024, he allegedly sent her to buy bread for him and subsequently led her to another dilapidated building where further abuse allegedly took place.

The victim disclosed that she had been subjected to sexual assault by the suspect since December 2023.

The NSCDC’s spokesperson confirmed that the suspect has admitted to the accusations. He will face charges in a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution.
