Ikeja Electric Issues Apology To ‘Band A’ Customers Over Shortcomings In Electricity Supply
In response to the recent electricity tariff hike, Ikeja Electric has issued an apology to customers on the Band A feeder for failing to meet the expected 20-hour daily electricity supply. While taking responsibility for some of the outages experienced in certain areas, Ikeja Electric attributed others to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). The acknowledgment of shortcomings in service provision comes amid increased scrutiny following the tariff increase imposed by the federal government.
The recent tariff hike, approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), saw a substantial increase of over 200 percent for Band A customers. This decision, announced by the Vice Chairman of NERC, Musiliu Oseni, reflects efforts to address disparities in electricity pricing and consumption across different consumer segments.
Despite the economic challenges facing many consumers, the government’s decision to implement the tariff adjustment aims to rationalize pricing structures and ensure sustainable revenue generation within the electricity sector. However, it’s worth noting that the tariff increase affects only a fraction of electricity consumers, primarily those classified as Band A, who represent a significant portion of the nation’s electricity consumption.
